Travis Hampton

Travis began playing the fiddle when he was seventeen. He told me that his Dad played but he never thought much about playing, himself. Then one day, when he was seventeen, he went to a country dance where William Simpson was fiddling. Watching William that night, Travis decided that he just had to learn how to play that thing. He went home and started practicing on his dad's fiddle. Later, after he was married, he started inviting other musicians to his home to play. At one time there were 6 guitars accompanying him every Saturday night.
