Ken started playing guitar when he was in the
Army stationed in Germany in 1950.
He met a guy by the name of Sherman Ward , who played just like Chet
Adkins. Ken decided that he just had to learn how to play that thing. Sherman
showed him how he could turn his guitar into a left-handed one. Still in the
service in 54-55, stationed in California, he and another kid, Gary Fisher of
Ft. Smith Arkansas got their first paying gig, working weekends at a place in
Paso Robles. When he got out of the service, he moved to Kansas City where he
played weekends. His wife, Betty Sue played rhythm guitar, so in order for them
both to play (they needed the money) Ken learned bass. |
